Toss

To toss is to gently mix ingredients (often salads or vegetables) by lifting and turning with utensils to coat them evenly.

  • Use large bowl and long utensils for best control.

  • Add dressing/sauce before tossing for even coverage.

  • Lift ingredients from bottom up, turning lightly.

  • Toss just before serving for freshest texture.

  • Avoid over-tossing, which bruises delicate greens.

  • For green salads and other leafy dishes – try not to toss more than what will be used immediately (in the next hour or so). Lettuces and other greens become soggy when stored with dressing over time.

There was a time when I naively thought Busta Rhymes, Modest Mouse, Missy Elliott, and so many others were sell-outs…but I get it now. Certain pages and posts may contain Amazon affiliate links – I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Every item linked is a product I believe in based on my personal experience. Sometimes I'll link to Target, Costco, or another store instead – usually because the price or product is just better (looking at you, Ball jars). I don't earn anything from those links; they're simply where I'd shop myself.
